First Jam Complete and Takeaways

Howdy I'm Justin, one of the three developers of PsychoBall. My job in this jam was primarily blueprinting as well as environment and lighting. This was my first game jam, as well as my first completed game. So it's a little surreal to look back on everything and say I had a part in that. So for this devlog I want to laser in on that feeling.

As I said before this is my first game jam as well as my first finished game. I had noodled around in various engines and had these pie in the sky ideas for games throughout my youth, but nothing's come of it. In fact, being part of the Underground Imagix team is the second time I've been in a team like this. So when Brian expressed interest in joining the Epic Mega Game Jam, I volunteered with a lot of excitement and anxiety. I knew that because it's a 7-day jam It's unrealistic to have something of grand proportion, but there were times where imposter syndrome hit. That or my expectations for what this game should be got out of scope of what it could be given to constraints, I got stressed at times. Talking and working with Kyle and Brian the other two on the team definitely helped to not only keep me grounded, keep me positive about the work I was contributing. It's not that all my anxieties disappeared but I was better able to manage them and work forward to something that I'm pretty proud of.

This experience, as brief as it was, helped me grow as a game artist and as a game dev. Plus I'm even more enthusiastic to work on our main game project (be sure to check out our socials for that it's pretty exciting).
